Flower, Fauna, Food and Funny - XVIII

Updated: Oct 2, 2025

FLOWER

Prickly Pear and Paper flower. A great combination. Everywhere, Italy.

Beautiful Bear’s Breech, Segesta.

Red Valerian covers the ground near Naples.

Amazing Dyer’s Woad growing out of the ash on Mount Etna.

FAUNA

We never did see any fauna in Italy, besides pigeons and the local cat sanctuaries, so here are the “Horses of Italy” instead.

On the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Bari

At the Musei Capitolini in Rome

Running around the carousel in Alberobello

Getting wild on top of the Teatro Politeama, Palermo.

FOOD

No Spritz, no party. It’s a big deal everywhere in Italy.

Pistachio is a local favourite. This time, on pasta with bacon!

Terry waited patiently to dig into this seafood pasta dish while I documented the dish.

Yup, octopus burgers. They’re very popular around town. So were the lung and spleen sandwiches. These were for viewing only - we just couldn’t manage it.

But we got our meat and potatoes on these delicious slices!

We did some serious dessert, coffee and iced coffee sampling. Sometimes all in one cup.

FUNNY

Ayyy! If you don’t like these cheesy chips, as Fonzie would say “sit on it!”

Popular Pinocchio from Pescia (seen here in Rome).

Sometimes you don’t know it’s funny until it comes to a head. I couldn’t have planned it!
